Should tourists tip in Italy?

Answer on @Quora by @MickLaSalle to Should tourists tip in Italy? – Xochielt Sanchez

Answer by Mick LaSalle:

Yes.  Definitely.  Don't be a deadbeat.  They expect it.  However, you should tip between 5 and 10 percent, which is what they want and expect.  When I was first in Italy, I left the equivalent of twenty dollars on a 100 dollar bill, and, when my back was turned, the waiter went behind the bar, showed the tip to the bartender and they both started laughing.  (I didn't see this.  My wife did.)  Five euros seems to be a good tip on anything from 65 to 100 euros.
