When I was first on the street, even 7-11s weren't open 24 hours. (They were called 7-11 because they were originally open from 7am to 11pm.) The only place you could get a cup of coffee at 4am was a casino. (I worked around Reno NV.) There were a few doughnut shops that opened around 5-5:30. One night, at around 4am, I was sitting in the parking lot of a shopping center, catching up my patrol log and getting ready to shake door handles, when someone knocked on the window of the car and scared the dog-doowah out of me. It was the owner of a doughnut shop who invited me in for coffee and fresh doughnuts because he was lonesome.
